The main source and inspiration for this outstanding sculpture were the Crows that, being just about 4,500 people in the 1870´s were able to resist the constant pushing of the Sioux, by which they were largerly outnumbered. The Crows had traditionally befriended the white and, especially in Montana, regarded them as a shield against the Sioux. They were (are) tall and handsome people that bore themselves proudly.
